Call to order
A meeting of the Bay Area Amateur Radio Club was held on Jan 9th, 2025 at the Salvation Army
building, Bay City, MI. Board members in attendance: president Steve Covieo (ke8nko), vice president
Loren Curtis (kf8f), secretary Bill Baylis (ke8nkn), and Net Coordinator Steve (ke8tsj). The meeting
was called to order at 7pm, starting with the pledge of allegiance.
Reports
Treasurer’s report: Current Balance reported, no bill’s.
Secretary’s report: Christmas dinner was held Dec. 12th, 2024 at the Salvation Army building. The
gathering started with the Pledge of Allegiance, there was no other club business, and the meeting
portion was ended.
Old Business
Club secretary stated November meeting notes had not been read during December’s Christmas
gathering. Motion was made to accept these notes into record. Motion was seconded and approved by
membership.
New Business
The president opened the meeting with discussion about our Christmas dinner held on Dec. 12th, 2024.
There were 14 members in attendance and 13 guests (27 total). Overall consensus; everyone enjoyed the
fellowship and great food!
President spoke about fake emails being disturbed to members. He reminded everyone that they should
never open any attachments from unknown sources.
The President informed members of Winter Field Day being held on Jan. 25th – 26th. Additional
information can be found on the clubs websites under the Categories heading.
Net Controller Coordinator gave a report on 2024 Tuesday Night Nets. There were a total of 50 Nets,
451 total check-ins, with an average of 9 check-ins a Net, 80 were in & outs. The highest number of
attendees for a Net was 14, and the smallest 6. The top 3 check-ins were Gary (3rd place), Rob ( 2nd),
and George (number 1) with 49 check-ins! One of the Net topics was, “What club presentation would
you like to see?” Attendees responded with; Power Pole installation, Power Box build, soldering, Nano
DNA, Raspberry PI, and H.T. ‘s operations, All-Star mode, tape-measure antenna build, and Fox-hunt.
Anyone interested in becoming a Net Controller should contact Steve.
Paul (kc8elq) stated he would be doing a training class on the use of wireless communication systems.
This system allows each person to convey what band they’re using and the number of contacts they’ve
made. No date for was given. Paul also informed members he will be setting up a Wires-X at his home. No date given to when it would be active.
President stated he was working on a date to do DMR/HT training. He’s planning on holding a training
class at the Salvation Army building. Date and time to be announced soon.
Ben (ke8mwn) stated there was still no date given as to when they would get access to the County
building. He also said Paul had been helping make minor adjustments to the club repeater for
performance.
Bill (ke8nkn) suggested the club consider members John & Julie Covieo be given Life Time
Membership for all their continued support. A motion was made to put it to a vote. Motion was made
and second, motion passed unanimously.
Presentations
Gary (wb8icu) gave a presentation on the use of a “Kite” winder to store his end-fed wire antenna. A
reminder to all members anyone interested in giving a presentation should contact a board member.
Announcements
Reminder: to pay your club dues.
Adjournment
A motion was made to end the meeting, motion was seconded, meeting ended at 7:51pm. There were a
total of 11 members in attendance.
